چکیده

Abstract The origins of many supergiant ore deposits remain unresolved because the factors responsible for such extreme metal enrichments are not understood. One factor critical importance is timing mineralization. However, information commonly confounded by difficulty dating minerals. world's largest uranium resource at Olympic Dam, South Australia, exceptional high abundance U allows U-Pb Dam U(-Cu-Au-Ag) deposit hosted in ca. 1.59 Ga rocks, and consensus has been that formed same time. We argue that, fact, two stages mineralization were involved. Paired situ trace element analyses texturally distinct uraninite populations show size highest-U-grade zones result addition 0.7–0.5 Ga, least one billion years after initial formation. This conclusion supported a remarkable clustering thousands radiogenic 207Pb/206Pb model ages Cu sulfide grains this Upgrading original to its present may have resulted from perturbation regional fluid flow triggered global climatic (deglaciation) tectonic (breakup Rodinia) events.

Geology and Mineralogy of Uranium Deposits from Mount Isa, Australia: Implications for Albitite Uranium Deposit Models

New geological, bulk chemical and mineralogical (QEMSCAN and FEG-EPMA) data are presented for albitite-type uranium deposits of the Mount Isa region of Queensland, Australia. Early albitisation of interbedded metabasalt and metasiltstone predated intense deformation along D2 high strain (mylonite) zones. The early sodic alteration paragenetic stage includes albite, riebeckite, aegirine, apatite...

OSL ages that inform late phases of dune formation and human occupation near Olympic Dam in northeastern South Australia

The Olympic Dam archaeological salvage program covers an area of 600 km2 and contains more than 16,500 archaeological sites, most of which are open scatters of stone artefacts on linear sand dunes. Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating offers an opportunity to date recent phases of dune movement and stability, and to provide a chronology for archaeological material on and in the sand b...

Uranium-Series Disequilibria in the Groundwater of the Shihongtan Sandstone-Hosted Uranium Deposit, NW China

Uranium (U) concentration and the activities of 238U, 234U, and 230Th were determined for groundwaters, spring waters, and lake water collected from the Shihongtan sandstone-hosted U ore district and in the surrounding area, NW China. The results show that the groundwaters from the oxidizing aquifer with high dissolved oxygen concentration (O2) and oxidation-reduction potential (Eh) are enriche...
